Gaming account theft is more common in Kenya than most players realize. A hacked PSN account can lose you thousands of shillings in wallet credit and a games library built over years. These steps cost nothing to implement and protect everything.
Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)
Enable 2FA on every gaming account — PSN, Xbox, Steam, Nintendo. When someone tries to log in from a new device, they need a code from your phone. This single step blocks the vast majority of account theft attempts. PSN 2FA: Account Settings → Security → 2-Step Verification.
Password Security
Never use the same password across multiple services. A PSN password compromised in a different data breach gives attackers access to your wallet credit if the password matches. Use a password manager — LastPass and Bitwarden have free tiers that work on Android phones.
Phishing Awareness
Scams targeting Kenyan gamers often arrive via WhatsApp: "Free PSN codes", "Your account is suspended — verify here", or "GameStop Kenya giveaway". Legitimate gaming companies never ask for your password via WhatsApp or SMS. Always log in directly to the official website.
Shared Gaming Cafes
Log out of every account after using a shared console. Check Active Sessions in your PSN/Xbox settings and log out of all devices if you suspect shared access. Never check "Remember me" on shared devices.
