The TV vs monitor debate matters more than most people think. The right choice depends on how you game, where you sit, and what your budget is. Here is a straightforward comparison for Kenyan gamers.
When to Choose a TV
- You game from a couch 2–3 metres from the screen
- You want a bigger screen (55 inches) for immersive single-player games
- You share the screen with others for local multiplayer
- IPTV and streaming services will use the same screen
When to Choose a Monitor
- You play competitive online games where 1ms response time matters
- You sit close to the screen (desk setup)
- You want the lowest input lag possible for fighting games and shooters
- Budget is tight — a 27-inch gaming monitor is cheaper than an equivalent-quality TV
The Kenyan Budget Reality
A decent 43-inch 4K smart TV in Kenya costs KSh 28,000–45,000. A quality 27-inch 1080p gaming monitor with 144Hz and 1ms response time costs KSh 18,000–28,000. For FIFA and Tekken, the monitor wins. For God of War and Cyberpunk, the TV wins.
Recommendation
If you can only have one screen: buy a 55-inch 4K TV with HDMI 2.1 support. It does everything reasonably well. If you have a desk setup and primarily play competitive games, invest in a 27-inch 165Hz monitor instead.
